Patron Profile – Audra Martin Merrick

What do you do for a living?

I’m an independent consultant providing services around digital strategy, project management, and facilitation. I also volunteer as a board member for an open source software project, Drupal and am a host for the Glasgow CreativeMornings community.

What does that mean day-to-day?

One day I might be facilitating a strategic planning workshop, other days managing a large research or content marketing programme, or working on a short engagement to help a team develop their customer relationship management best practices. It all depends on the client’s needs and goals!

What do you love about magazines?

I love that magazines have a real connection with their audience: a special language, a source of not just information and entertainment, but a sense of belonging to a community. Magazines can help people do their jobs better, explore interests they don’t necessarily share with friends and family, and read others’ stories they might not hear otherwise. The connection the reader gets from magazines serves a real purpose in their life.

Why are you supporting the International Magazine Centre?

There is so much to share–history, current challenges, and opportunities ahead. I think the IMC serves as a crucial central resource for publishers to share and inspire each other, as well as supporting the next generation of magazines.
