And will be speaking about The fear of getting it wrong (and how we got it right) – What a 124-year-old magazine taught us about change

About Amer’s talk

When I first found myself leading a historic publication, I was often reluctant to make unpopular decisions or introduce significant change. Like many editors, I was full of ideas and eager to move quickly, but I soon learned that lasting success depends on more than creativity alone. Over time, I discovered that confidence in leadership comes from creating frameworks, systems and a clear strategic vision.

I’ll share how audience-focused frameworks and processes helped transform a 124-year-old publication, shaping everything from content strategy and editorial priorities to audience growth and subscriptions. I’ll also reflect on my journey from a shy, introverted editor-in-chief in his twenties to today, where I learned that delivering meaningful change often requires the confidence to challenge established ways of working.

About The Review of Religions

Founded in 1902, The Review of Religions is a 124-year-old magazine once read by Leo Tolstoy, exploring spirituality, history, and the relationship between faith and the modern world, while fostering respectful interfaith discussion and promoting a peaceful and tolerant understanding of Islam.

Today, it reaches a global audience through its print magazine, website, digital edition, video content, social media channels, exhibitions and events. It has recently launched editions in Spanish, German, and French. As Editor-in-Chief, Amer has helped guide its transformation from a historic print publication into a modern multi-platform media brand.
