Alex Mennie

What do you do for a living?

By day I’m a lawyer working on digital marketing, intellectual property and technology.

The rest of the time I run Mennie Drinks, an independent publishing imprint putting out literary zines and chapbooks about bars, whisky and drinking culture.

What does this mean day to day?

Well, the day job is mostly contracts, policies and advising on wild new marketing ideas…

For Mennie Drinks, it involves writing, editing and hand-numbering print copies, fixing web store glitches, running a Substack and social media pages and trying to sell the occasional chapbook or zine.

What do you love about magazines?

In a world of disposable content, pivots to video and influencer posts that won’t even make tomorrow’s chip paper, a magazine has hefty, weight and a tactile permanence you just can’t beat.

Tell us one thing not many people know about you.

I got my Yachtmaster qualification in 2018 primarily because I wanted to sail to Islay to explore its 11 distilleries and the Feis Ile festival. It just didn’t seem right to take the ferry.

Where can we connect with you?
