Start kicking ass at ad sales

Whether advertising is the backbone of your business, or you carry a few ads because you think you got lucky once, we’d all like to be better at ad sales.

This half day session with Helen Coston and Suzanne Martin will cover ad sales strategy, mindset and execution, and will give you the opportunity to chat through your own approach with your peers.

The Agenda

  • 1pm-1.05pm Welcome
  • 1.05pm-2pm Sales strategy with Helen Coston
Having a sales strategy as a publisher is not a nice-to-have: it’s essential for business success. Consultant and sales trainer Helen Coston from Inktop will walk through 4 key principles your sales strategy needs to be built on.

She’ll go through some of the typical pitfalls she sees with her publishing clients and how you can avoid these. She’ll also talk through an example of a sales strategy project she recently worked on, and how the publisher grew advertising revenue by £80k+ per year through implementing this.
  • 2pm-2.30pm Roundtable 1. We’ll split into breakout rooms where you’ll get a chance to talk through your own ad sales approach with your peers
  • 2.30pm-2.40pm Feedback
  • 2.40pm-2.50pm Break
  • 2.50pm-3.20pm Case study and mindset focus with Suzanne Martin
Using Westender Magazine case-studies as her focus, Founder and Editor Suzanne Martin will help you navigate questions such as: editorial vs advertorial, print focussed or digital, email or social media, newsletter or app, or how to make money from it all!

Like so much you’d love to achieve in business, it starts with mindset. Have you thought about how you start and end your day? Suzanne will talk you through her routine with meditation and visualisation from the moment she wakes up, till she writes in her journal before she falls asleep.

Set yourself up for success with a BIG target, reverse engineer the steps to get there, with accountability to keep you going when it inevitably gets tough.
  • 3.20-3.50 Roundtable 2. We’ll split into breakout rooms where you’ll get a chance to talk through your own ad sales approach with your peers
  • 3.50pm-4pm Feedback
  • 4pm Finish up

About Helen and Suzanne

Helen Coston is a business development consultant and sales trainer who has worked with more than forty publishers to improve their profitability.

Helen has 15 years of hands-on experience in media sales and launched Inktop Commercial in 2019, a consultancy and training business specialising in publishing.

Suzanne Martin is the Founder and Editor of Westender Magazine: a hyper-local freemium publication for the quirky West End of Glasgow. A background in travel wasn’t the obvious career path towards magazines, however one fun degree later, and one gap in the market spotted – and a Fifer decided to tell Weegies what was going on in their own backyard.
