What do you do for a living?

I run Rebel Creative, a communications business in the Highlands. I’m a writer by background, so most of my work is in copywriting and editorial across corporate, print, and web. However, I also increasingly offer creative consultancy services – essentially helping organisations of all kinds to communicate more effectively.

What does that mean day-to-day?

Most of the time I spend writing, which I realise is some people’s worst nightmare. For me, it’s all I wanted to do since I was five years old!

I’m lucky in that, although my business is young, I have a really diverse client portfolio, so no two days are ever the same. I get to spend a lot of time thinking creatively and learning new skills. Most recently, I wrote a script and provided the voiceover for a promotional film, which was a first for me.

What do you love about magazines?

I’m a tactile person and I love design as much as I do great writing. For me, it’s the experience of curling up with a printed magazine (or a book, I have never made friends with my Kindle!) and escaping for a while. Digital products are fantastic, but we live in a noisy, chaotic world, and I love a magazine’s ability to take you on a carefully curated journey.

Tell us one thing not many people know about you?

I used to be a politician! While pregnant with my second child, I started a campaign to save my local maternity unit, which culminated in me being elected as a councillor. I served four exhausting but exhilarating years.

My campaigning included some bonkers experiences – leading a march of 1000 people down my local high street, delivering whistleblower documents directly into the hands of the health minister, and even sending a small plastic cow to every MSP in Holyrood. That’s a whole story on its own…

Where can we connect with you?

You can see my work or read my blog  or drop me a line on LinkedIn. I live in the north Highlands so often miss out on the coffee and chat but I love a yarn online so do get in touch!
