What do you do for a living?
I’m a graphic designer and creative director running my own agency called Bentley Creative. For the last 25+ years I’ve almost exclusively worked on magazines, from Men’s Health, FHM, GQ and my own magazine Caffeine.
What does that mean day-to-day?
Each day is quite different, I may be meeting a client, networking, on a photoshoot or working on a branding project. I will generally be juggling a few projects and trying to make sure they don’t clash. Most of the time I’m asking questions to diagnose the real problem a client has.
What do you love about magazines?
I love the structure of them, each issue is different, but they follow a format. I love the cycles, you get to the deadline, it all goes to print and it’s a body of work. It’s the feeling we had before digital cameras, you sent off the film and waiting for the prints to come back. Sometimes they are great, sometimes not so. I love that they are real tangible objects that you can hold in your hand, and sniff…
Tell us one thing not many people know about you?
I’ve been studying perfume making for a few years and I make it in my spare time.
