Rachel Arthur

What do you do for a living?

I run boom saloon, a global movement to democratise creativity for good via print magazine, community projects and creative studio.

What does that mean day-to-day?

The whole kit and caboodle! Streamlining is a big focus for us in 2022, however we can’t lose sight of any facet of boom saloon – our community projects sit at the centre of everything that we do and are funded by profits from our print magazine and creative studio, as well as our very recently launched membership scheme. Each strand of what we do is unique and focussed yet they are all fully interdependent.

What do you love about magazines?

Their physical presence. Their weight, their smell. The ability of the printed page to transport you to an entirely new place, connect you to people you’ve never met and incite genuine change in our strange world is something I’ll never take for granted.

Tell us one thing not many people know about you?

I’m a painfully slow reader.
